Judy Asbury studied art in the 1970's in New York City. Since then she has lived in New Mexico west of Santa Fe in the Jemez Mountains of Northern New Mexico. They are a major inspiration and focus of her art. Asbury likes to work on site by a river because she feels the natural sounds of the water, wind, and birds are important elements in her painting process.

The landscape paintings are a synthesis of her inner experience of the land as well as her vision of it. Asbury is interested in a meditative approach to painting, and has practiced Zen and Tibetan Buddhist meditative techniques for over thirty years. She works in oil and canvas with metallics, iridescents, and reflective micro glass beads, and also uses 23 karat gold, sterling silver and copper leaf. Color, the painting's surface, and the use of expressionistic brush strokes are of major importance to her during the creative process.

When it becomes too cold to work outdoors, Judy works in her studio on expressionistic spacescapes using astronomical photographs including Hubble Space Telescope images. This is the art work for which Asbury is internationally recognized. Her spacecapes have been exhibited internationally including BASEL ART and a prestigious one person show at the American Museum of Natural History/Hayden Planetarium in New York City.
